Something Worth Fighting For

A piece I made for the QuakeCon 2018 Fan Art Contest showing Ranger and the Doom Slayer's eternal struggle, motivated by what they've lost. Acrylic paint on 16"x40" canvas.

The guidelines for the contest dictated that the entries had to focus exclusively on characters/material from id/Bethesda titles. Since it's QuakeCon I knew I wanted to feature Quake characters, but I wanted to feature Doom in some way as well since DOOM Eternal's gameplay reveal was at this year's QuakeCon. (Plus I love the two series, so it worked out.)

After a couple days of conceptualizing I settled on a large vertical piece that tied the main characters together in a way that incorporated their similar backstories - Ranger, trapped in the Dreamlands and fighting to get back to his family (pictured in the photo in the center) and Doomguy, stuck in an eternal struggle against the demons of Hell while enraged over the loss of his pet rabbit Daisy (at least in Doom 1/2, and Quake Champions lore).
